I've been lured into another game system thanks to the wonderful #Warmongers on Twitter. I'm kinda glad though cos it looks awesome and scratches an itch that I didn't even know I had. The Wild West, Cowboys and Indians. Loved them since I was a kid watching old westerns with my dad. Some of my all time favourite films are westerns, namely 'Once Upon a Time in the West', 'The Good the Bad and the Ugly'. Its that dirty portrayal of man on the edge of law surviving no matter what, Its almost primal. So when I saw Blackwater Gulch I got a little excited. Now I'm sure that there are a great many wild west games out there but to be fair I've only seen this one so can't compare it to any others. I can however say that my first impression is a good one. Firstly the rules are free, and secondly the game itself looks really simple but with plenty of scope for personalising your games. Plus they have some great artwork in there. They are currently building up a range of miniatures to go with the game which are really cool but sadly not what I'm looking for as I have a particular mental image I'm aiming towards. This is where another twitter recommendation comes in. Black Scorpion miniatures are making some cracking figures at the moment in the 'Heroic' 28mm scale (ie 32mm) and this is where I found what I was looking for. Banditos!!!!! A gang of Mexican Banditos. Theseguys scream wild west to me and once I do a couple of little conversions here and there will be perfect for what I want. They do a plethora of other cowboys and the like too so plenty of options. Hmmm now I wonder if I could get some steampunk in there too..........
