Tube Tools Rock

For quite a while now I've been hankering after a Tube tool so I can add to the conversion repertoire on pretty much everything I make. This post is a bit pic heavy so bear with me.
My roll maker is from Green Stuff World and cost £14 which included postage. Inside the pack you get 2 fine plates, 2 medium plates and 2 large plates, as well as 2 bracket bits to fit on the sides.
Picture
Picture
The 2 brackets slot onto the sides of the plates at either a 90° or 45° which give you totally different styles of tube. Basically you put a sausage of greenstuff on the bottom plate and roll the top one back wards and forwards until you get the finished item. How hard you roll it and which plates you use depends on what you get.

Below are a couple of bits I made with the tool just to test it. This is only scratching the surface of what can be made but I'll cover some more of that another time if people are interested.

All in all this product is simply brilliant, and although some may not want to spend this much money on a tool I would highly recommend it. If you like to sculpt or convert your minis then the amount of things this tool can be used for is really really useful.

Hi folks

How are we all on this fine day. Its been a loooooong time since I actually blogged on here which i guess you're all pretty used to as I've always been a bit spordic lol.
Anyway. It's all been changing over here and as such I have had to re-assess all of my 'projects' as there was never going to be a cat in hells chance of me finishing them.  Since starting the business and more importantly opening the shop the priorities have shifted so a lot of the comics and model projects have been put on hiatus for a while. I will get back to them but just not right now.
Recently I have been getting a bit more gaming time in with my mate so we've been playing Dreadball, dreadfleet and we're getting back into 40k via kill team. Seeing as I haven't played or done anything 40k related for years (oh yes I've grown a set and stopped whinging about GW) I had to decide what army i wanted to play. My mate's playing Space Marines and maybe some IG so i knew it wouldn't be them. I dabbled with the idea of Tau but really cant be arsed to paint them. Then the whispering voices started to gnaw at my brain. I remembered that many years ago I started to collect Nurgle and that I still had them all in mothballs!!! This pleased papa Nurgle immensely and so the pact was signed.

The above pics are just a few bits of what's in store. So far its been a case of collating what I've got, working out points and trialling paint jobs. It looks like I've got at least 2000 pts so It should take a while to get them all battle ready. However unlike every other time I'm determined to actually get them done. To show my dedication I've even joined a forum how 90's of me lol.
Anyway's I'll make sure to keep you all updated

Apocalypse sometime

For ages now I've been really wanting to play some kind of post apocalyptic game, but for the life of me I can't find one I really like. I've seen loads of cool ideas and bits and pieces but nothing solid and definite. In truth I don't really want to start anything that's going to cost a lot of money, so probably free rules etc. I decided to look and see what I had around already, and then it struck me. Necromunda!!! I've got the rule book already plus I've got tons of figures and bits floating around I can cannibalize into new models.
Picture
Now Necromunda is awesome but I don't want to just start bog standard playing the game again. I want something a little more post apocalyptic earth, with vehicles etc.
I love all the ramshackle scenery and overcrowding of Necromunda and there will be a lot of that but i also like the thought of wide open expanses in which you can have brutal Mad Max esque vehicles charging along trying to kill each other. The other big stylistic influence for what I want is one of my all time favorite games 'Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl'. With mutants and tooled up loners as well as very cool scenery and plot driven missions.

So in a nutshell I'm going to start building post apocalyptic models and scenery based around Necromunda but with some major twists. I cant wait to start!!!

It's been a busy old couple of weeks with not much hobby time in there. However I  did finally got round to taking some half decent photos today for the site. Iv'e updated the Relevant pages on the site but here is a little bit of Dreadfleet and Dystopian Wars. The Dreadfleet mat certainly makes the models look good. Now all I need to do is actually finish them all.

Also I've been experimenting with some social media buttons which you can see on the home page. I've gone a bit more steampunk with them so would be interested to see what people think.

After last nights musings on 40k I've finally caved in good and proper. Yes I've decided to try and do something for Golden Demon this year. Last time I entered was 2008 and I got a finalist pin but no demon.
I could do one of the numerous half finished projects I have stashed away, but instead have opted to go with an idea I had years ago but never started. I won't tell you what it is as yet, you can have fun guessing. However below are most of the bits needed for it, which have been pulled from the bits boxes today.

Now the fun begins!!!!! The Demon will be mine :-)

It looks like the butterfly syndrome might be kicking in again. After sorting through the office this evening I found various parts of 40k projects which I never properly got motivated with. I also found loads of cool Imperial Guard bits. This got me thinking, which is a dangerous thing indeed. I'm now thinking of putting together a small 40k force based around an alliance of Space Marines and Imperial Guard. In fact I'm thinking of really really going to town and putting together real show stopper of a force. No holds barred.... Yes that's right the Crimson Shadows and the Nineveh 'Lucky 42nd' are making a comeback. There will be scratchbuilds, conversions and kitbashes across the whole army, all on scenic bases too. Who knows maybe I'll have a go at a Deamon this year ;-)

Could this be a daemon??????

Evening All

After seeing some pretty impressive scratchbuild pieces going around just lately its made me want to drag out my unfinished projects.
After I entered Golden Daemon in 2008 I vowed to build something more impressive and get the daemon I narrowly missed out on. This heavy chopper was the result of that. As is always the case however real life got in the way and this little baby has been languishing in the cupboard ever since.
I designed this with the intention of being an early pattern of a Vulture/Valkyrie type thing hence the similarity in looks. It is however completely scratchbuilt. I've got the cockpits and the base somewhere and will drag them out later on.
I guess the next thing is try and actually finish the beast. Oh and remember its name!!!

Would love to know what anyone things.

Short Stories and Space Marines.

2/7/2012

I recently entered a fan fiction short story competition over at The Shell Case. I entered a piece called 'Escape from Madness' which is a story I've had in my head for years. Its based around my long suffering Space Marine chapter I invented many moons ago, called the Crimson Shadows. I wasn't fortunate enough to win as there were some fantastic entries and I am by no means a writer. The winner being a fantastic piece called 'The Bone Carver' by Patrick Burdine (@somnicidal). I will however be featured in the Shell Case Shorts Anthology along with @JamesMEWilson who wrote a Dystopian Wars based story called 'Traitor'. Anyway without further ado here is Escape from Madness.
Hope you enjoy.

Escape from Madness

A blood curdling scream filled the air. In it self this was nothing extraordinary among the dark corridors of Commoragh. The source of the scream however was a different matter. The broken body of the Haemonculus lie crumpled on the floor, like a ragdoll tossed down a flight of stairs by its owner.

The dark streets of Commoragh are a twisted parody of the thoroughfares of mankind. Littered with the sadistic cast offs of the Dark Eldar race they are enough to make a normal man run and cower in sheer terror.

A giant of a man ran naked through the streets, in stark contrast to his surroundings. The horror not even registering on his determined mind.

Occasionally he would meet one of the filthy xeno blocking his path, but they never lived long enough to realise. A snapped neck or compacted breast bone making swift work of them.

It was quiet, too quiet. Where was everyone? The seven foot man hunkered down behind some crates while he decided upon his next move.

It was a rare event indeed that would unite the citizens of Commoragh in relative peace. Today however was just such an occurrence. The Harlequins had come to visit!!

All the Houses of the Dark Eldar had gathered in the main square to witness the event. A Harlequin troupe hadn’t visited Commoragh for nearly three hundred years. Nobody knew why they had chosen this day to visit, or even if there was a reason, but that was not important. The Harlequins were to be treated with respect and reverence, for they knew things and had witnessed sights that no mere mortal could ever comprehend.

The giant of a man rose from behind the crates and looked around, made the sign of the Aquila on his chest and finished his prayer

Inter Nomino De Imperator

  Proelier Quoad Obitus

He sniffed the air noticing something different. A difference that a normal human would never detect. With the heightened senses of the emperors finest however this was normal. The naked space marine stood in the street trying to remember what the smell was. Then he remembered! The Webway!! There was an open webway portal to the north. He had no idea why this was the case but to him it meant escape!!!!

The Harlequin troupe stood on the perimeter of a circular stage in the centre of Commoragh’s main square. Their backs to the webway portal in the centre. Thousands of Dark Eldar surrounded them watching intently. The Harlequins faceless visages giving off no hint as to their thoughts or emotions. It would not be long now.

The space marine had circled his way round to the far side of the city square where he stood in a darkened doorway taking in the events before him. His Reclusiarch had told him about the Harlequins, and how no human had ever seen their re-enactment of the great fall. This was not the time for such things, as he had to find a way to get to the centre of the stage and through the webway portal, somehow bypassing the several thousand strong mass of Dark Eldar warriors. A plan needed to be formulated and fast.

Unbeknownst to everyone in Commoragh the Harlequins were aware of the Space Marines presence. His name was Umbricius Flaccus. High lord and Chapter Master of the Crimson Shadows. Ironically his capture and subsequent internment by the Dark Eldar is deemed a pivot point in history by the Harlequins for reasons only they can understand.

Little is known of the Crimson Shadows history prior to their home planet of Eden being virus bombed by the Nurgle fleet of Scabius Bilerot. This single event wiped out over three quarters of the chapter, as those unfortunate enough to not be conflagrated by the initial impact were slowly warped into hideous Nurgle spawn by the pestilence released. Within hours all biological mass on the once verdant planet had been transformed into a sickening soup of vitriolic ichors.

The reason such a large proportion of the chapter was destroyed was due to the chapter celebrating founder’s day. A huge feast whereby the entire chapter gather to give praise to their founding fathers. Founder’s day was the biggest celebration in the Crimson Shadows diary. Where small contingents of the chapter were sent out on pilgrimages, to various sites of importance to the founders.

It was such a pilgrimage that led to Lord Flaccus being held captive in Commoragh.

Lord Flaccus’s retinue set out on their pilgrimage to Baal, the home of their primarch Sanguinius. As was the duty of the chapter master!

They had taken the usual route through the Hengeris system when they were set upon by a Dark Eldar raider fleet. The reasoning behind this attack is unknown, but the single Space Marine barge did not go down easily, despite the superior numbers. Four Dark Eldar vessels were destroyed before they managed to get into boarding range. Once within range, wave after wave of warriors boarded the stricken Space Marine vessel, only to be beaten back by the hardened veterans within. Lord Flaccus’s retinue fought valiantly, killing dozen xenos for every fallen brother. After a protracted battle the last man left was Lord Flaccus himself. His mighty twin headed power axe sweeping back and forth. Slaying and dismembering the finest the Archon could throw at him with each stroke.

Lord Flaccus was the mightiest warrior of the chapter. Bedecked in the finest armour the chapter could provide. However he knew that even he could not defeat the force surrounding him single handed. The enemy would pay for this! Lord Flaccus raised his axe and charged head long into the wall of xenos.

‘For Sanguinius and the Emperor.’

He bellowed as his shoulder plate crushed the first Eldar. That was the last thing Lord Flaccus remembered!

The next year was like a dream. Drifting in and out of consciousness pumped with a cocktail of drugs by the sadistic Haemonculus he would later break. Lord Flaccus contemplated this quietly as he hid from view in the main square of Commoragh. Wondering the reasons behind his capture, he at first assumed they were after information, but he didn’t remember being questioned in anyway. After thinking about this for what seemed an age the only logical solution he could think of was they did it because they wanted to!! The Dark Eldar captured and tortured purely because they could!!!

Such heinous acts were an affront to the Emperor and must be dealt with accordingly. First however Lord Flaccus would need to escape this place and return home so he could re-equip and muster his marines. Little did he know that they were no more!!!

He assessed the mass before him calculating the safest route to the webway portal at the centre of the stage. It didn’t look good! Between him and safety were several thousand Dark Eldar warriors and wyches and a troupe of Harlequins.

The Harlequin Shadowseer sensed the Space Marines thoughts and decided now would be a good time to act. At the psychic prompting of the Shadowseer the Harlequin troupe began to slowly dance around the stage, projecting holographic images around themselves depicting the history of the Eldar race. The Dark Eldar onlookers were entranced as if hypnotised by the fluid motions of the performers. A distraction just as the Shadowseer intended.

Having picked up on the attentiveness of the crowd Lord Flaccus decided now would be the best time to make his move. He skirted around the back the nearest onlookers until he reached one of the many columns dotted around the square. The strange material the columns were constructed from seemed to absorb all surrounding light leaving the base shrouded in perpetual shadow. Ideal for the purposes of the fugitive Space Marine!

The Harlequins continued their dance slowly unveiling the excesses indulged by the Eldar race eons ago. All the while Umbricius Flaccus careful moved from shadowy pillar to shadowy pillar careful to stay out of sight at all times. The Harlequins dance had started to pick up speed as they re-enacted the steady decline into madness and depravity. The crowd had started to sway imperceptibly in time with the actions of the performers as the performance started to build towards the Great Fall itself.

Lord Flaccus had managed to work his way through the majority of the crowd and was only a short sprint from stage itself. His thoughts now moved from the Dark Eldar to the Harlequins themselves. How would he get past them? They were an unknown entity at the best of times but this was definitely out of the ordinary even for a Space Marine chapter master. His thoughts were interrupted by the movement of something close by. A grotesque had spotted his movement and was moving in to investigate. Lord Flaccus considered his move. Should he try to remain hidden or should he confront the grotesque creation. Everybody else remained transfixed on the show before them so the Space Marine took his opportunity and lunged. His fist caught the grotesque clean in the throat. The creature gurgled and slumped to the floor.

The Shadowseer gave a wry smile to himself as the naked Space Marine felled the twisted abomination. He silently ordered the troupe to continue the dance so as to keep the rest of the Dark Eldar distracted. The Space Marine must escape!!

Lord Flaccus leapt over the body of the Grotesque only to be confronted by four more of the monstrosities. He deftly sidestepped a clumsy jab from the first grotesque and turned to head butt the second who was now directly in front of him. His victim stumbled slightly so with the augmented strength granted to him by the Emperor, he drove his knee full force into the creature’s chest. The grotesque slumped as every organ in its chest was ruptured. One down three to go!

The Harlequins were dancing in an ever more elaborate and visual manner as they represented the battle between Khaela Mensha Khaine and the Prince of Pleasure Slaanesh himself. The Shadowseer was now keeping a very close eye on the events below the stage but could not directly interfere yet as it would disrupt the show and release the entire crowd from their present distraction.

Spinning round on his heel the Space Marine right hooked the closest grotesque directly in the nose. There was a crunch of bone as the nasal bone broke and entered the brain, killing the creature instantly. Three left and nothing between Lord Flaccus and the stage, but what of the Harlequins? They had done nothing to interfere but must have surely seen him. He ran towards the stage as fast as he could ignoring everything else around him, the distance closing between him and the Webway portal.

On seeing the Space Marine running towards the stage, the Shadowseer leapt into the air with a dazzling display of coruscating lights. The Eldar race had fallen!! The show was at its climax and the stunned Dark Eldar were coming out of their transfixed state.

By the time The Archon and his dark retinue had realised there was a naked Space Marine running amongst them it was too late. Lord Umbricius Flaccus had thrown himself directly into the webway portal. Into a realm where very few humans have ever stepped, much less returned.

The Harlequins swiftly followed safe in the knowledge that their part in history had been upheld. The Space Marine could find his own way now, although the Shadowseer knew they’d meet again.

I'm currently getting rid of a lot of my Games Workshop stuff to make way for the paraphernalia associated with exhibiting at comic conventions this year. As such below is a list of all the Imperial Guard pieces for sale at the moment. They're all as seen in varying degrees of completion, not that matters if you're painting them up yourself. Not put prices on as they're all negotiable, depending on location how much you want etc.
If anything interests you please feel free to email me on elblondino@hotmail.co.uk or tweet me @elblondino.

Anyway, I'll leave you to peruse.

A little bit of Christmas Cheer

12/25/2011

Firstly I'd like to say a big Merry Christmas to everyone out there. Hope Santa brought you some funky stuff.
Had a busy last couple of weeks so never got round to showing you all my new additions. First up is the old school Ogre I won from the Wargaming Trader
The photo doesn't do it proper justice, the paint job is gorgeous.
Picture
Also received just before Christmas is this little dude. The Britanan St Nik from Tor Gaming. This was another of my Christmas Twitter winnings. Lady luck certainly shone this month.
A fantastically detailed model with loads of character which I 'can't wait to get stuck into. I will definitely be investing in his fellow puppets as soon as I can!!
Picture
As I have the rest of December off work for a change I will make a concerted effort to get some work done on this and my Dystopian Wars miniatures. Once I've done some more work on my comics that is.
Enjoy your Christmas folks.
